Environmental Scientist (Entry-Level)

EnviroServices & Training Center, a Hawai‘i-owned and operated consulting firm, is seeking a full-time Environmental Scientist for its Honolulu office. Must be able to interview in Honolulu.

Employee must possess the necessary knowledge, education, experience, physical abilities, and communication skills to perform the duties described below:

  • Interpret and apply various federal and state regulations, rules, and guidance documents pertaining to environmental site investigations.

  • Perform research at various government agencies for site-specific historical records in support of environmental site assessments.

  • Assist in assessing environments for exposure to air pollution, lead-based paint, asbestos, and other hazardous materials.

  • Assist with studies of potential health hazards to workers in areas of physical, chemical, and biological agents.

  • Make appropriate measurements to determine the magnitude of exposure or nuisance to the worker and the public.

  • Prepare a variety of written, site-specific plans to detail project/program activities and/or to specify requirements for contractors.

  • Collect multi-media samples in support of environmental compliance/investigation/remediation projects.

  • Preserve/package environmental samples in accordance with method-specific protocol and transport the samples to various environmental laboratories for chemical analyses.

  • Evaluate and validate analytical data obtained from environmental laboratories.

  • Prepare a variety of written technical reports to communicate findings from research, field investigations and data evaluation based on interpretation of federal, state, and county regulations, rules, and guidance documents.

  • Prepare applicable drawings and figures using CAD, GIS, and/or other software.

  • Assist with the preparation of design specifications for use in the construction bidding process.

  • Obtain appropriate State and Federal certifications associated with hazardous materials planning and management.

Skills/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or other physical science from an U.S.-accredited four-year college or university.

  • Direct experience in activities described above is preferred.

  • Proficient with PC and MS Office.

  • Valid Hawaii drivers’ license, vehicle, and vehicle insurance

  • Strong reading comprehension, technical writing skills, and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong work ethic with customer service-oriented attitude.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organization and time management skills.

  • Pass an occupational physical and drug screen.

  • Able to work independently and in a team setting, organize/manage multiple priorities, and conduct problem analysis/resolution.

  • Able to conduct site visits and collect data at a variety of locations, including residences, schools, construction sites, commercial/industrial facilities, secured government facilities, chemically-contaminated sites, and/or undeveloped or agricultural land with challenging topography, conditions, and climates.

  • Able to collect samples from environmental media, including various building materials, ambient and indoor air, soil, groundwater, surface water, stormwater, and/or containerized hazardous materials.

  • Able to obtain contractor-level clearance at secured government facilities, including DoD installations.

  • Able to climb ladders and work on roofs.

  • Able to lift and carry heavy objects (40 pounds).

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment and work with hazardous materials.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 per hour
